Samantha Smith is a 61-year-old female. She suffers from arthralgia’s and arthritis which causes her pain and stiffness in the lower back, ankle, foot, and left shoulder. She additionally suffers from diabetes mellitus, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and mental dysfunction. In April 2012, an x-ray of her right foot found mild to moderate degenerative change of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint and along the medial aspect of the talonavicular joint.

In her ankle they found spurring at the insertion of the Achilles tendon and along the plantar surface of the calcaneus.  That same April an x-ray of her left foot found superior and inferior calcaneal spurring and no acute abnormality, and in the ankle they found a moderate spur at the Achilles insertion of the small plantar calcaneal spur.

Ms. Smith’s highest form of education is a college degree. After achieving this goal, she worked from October 1985 to April 2012 as a mail processing clerk for the United States Post Office.

She retained the Law Office of Neil H. Good to represent her before the Social Security Administration (SSA). Attorney Good Filed an application with the SSA to obtain disability benefits on her behalf. The initial application was denied, as well as her request for reconsideration. The SSA determined that while Ms. Smith suffers from maladies that cause some impediments, she is still able to perform work. Attorney Good filed a request for a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) on Ms. Smith’s behalf.

Attorney Good outlined all of Samantha Smith’s disabilities to the ALJ . He then explained that as a result of her ailments she can’t stand for more than five minutes or sit for more than 20 minutes. requires the use of a walker or a cane. These disabilities not only made work unrealistic for Ms. Smith, they made basic life functions such as cooking, cleaning, or laundry impractical.

The Social Security Administration awarded Samantha Smith Social Security benefits. They ruled that Ms. Smith was not able to perform her past relevant work. A combination of her physical and mental disabilities impeded her ability to do all work.
